Utility Assistance Winter Program (EAP) is a program that provides a one time credit on utilities for low-income households. It generally begins in October/November and runs through May. If a household is eligible, a designated amount will be credited to the utility bill.

Food Pantry provides a three to five day supply of emergency food to families in need every 30 days, or as needed in emergencies.
Family Shelter (CAPES House) provides shelter assistance for families with children under the age of 18 in emergency situations. Emergency situations include loss of housing due to fire or eviction.
Weatherization assists low income and eldery persons with home insulation, storm windows, doors, caulking, etc. to low income and elderly persons. Qualified renters and home owners are eligible. To apply for Weatherization, please call 211.
Lawn Program offers direct services for the low and moderate income elderly and individuals with physical disabilities. The services will include: Lawn mowing and raking leaves. The service is available in the City of Hammond.
Congregate Meals is for persons 60 years of age or older at four locations. The meal, which provides 1/3 of the daily nutrtion, is part of a three hour program each day. Along with the four nutrition sites, a Senior Restaurant Voucher Program is available. This program offers seniors the opportunity to enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch daily at a restaurant in Whiting, Indiana, a restaurant in Highland, Indiana and a restaurant in Hobart, Indiana. In addition to providing 1/3 of their daily nutrition requirements, the Voucher Program also provides seniors with a chance to socialize with other members of their community. The financial savings also make this a highly desirable program for those in need of economic assistance.

Tax Filing Assistance is provided to low income households in the community. The purpose of this project is to assist persons in maximizing their tax refund so that they may use these funds to help better their financial future.
